Nice - Rue des Ponchettes and Plage des Ponchettes

This is a nice evening to show you Rue des Ponchettes and the beach.

These one-story buildings are called "ponchettes". So the street is called Rue des Ponchettes.

Here you can see the Tour Belande, on the hill called "Chateau". The chateau itself was demolished in the early 1700s, but the hill is still called Chateau.

Let's take the elevator, here on the left, next to Hotel Suisse, and "climb" the Tour Belande.

From here you have a nice view of the old port of Nice.

And also of the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels), the Quai des Etats-Unis and the Plage des Ponchettes.

Let's go skinny dipping! Nudism isn't allowed on this beach, but you can go the beach at Cap de Nice for that. I certainly will, to get a filthy tan. That's why I bring my bike with me!

Okay, let's continue our tour.

The ponchettes were turned into art galleries, restaurants and shops.

Finally we're taking one of the gates in the Ponchettes and we're returning to Vieux Nice.

Als ik zo eens over je schouder meekijk, krijg ik sterk de indruk dat ze straks vooral vooruit zal kijken en dat je, wat je achterlaat, gauw zal vergeten als belangrijk. Je gaat letterlijk en hopelijk figuurlijk, een mooie tijd tegemoet. Maar wat een blog wordt dit. Pracht en praal, en Jaap, in al zijn facetten.

After the cold war Prince Valerian Obolensky was invited by Anatoli Sobchak, mayor of St. Petersburg and Russian candidate of presidency, to come to his beautiful city. Sobchak offered the Prince, on behalf of the Russian Republic, his most sincere excuses for everything the Russian nation had done to the Russian nobility since 1917.

Recently Prince Valerian Obolensky started a new project: Russian Aristocracy Online - a genealogy website of the Russian aristocracy.
