Saturday, June 21st, 2008: the annual Fête de la Musique in Nice. All over the city bands are playing, people are dancing, eating, drinking, relaxing. On Place Massena we listen to a good hard rock band.

In Vieux Nice soft rock on Place Palais de la Justice.

All streets in Vieux Nice, like Rue de la Préfecture, are crowded with people.

Place Rosetti.

Further up in Rue de la Préfecture a nice punk rock band.

Some people prefer to watch Holland lose against Russia, though, like here on the Course Soleya.

Quai des Etats-Unis, along the beach. This girl plays the tune of the Pink Panther.

And then we're listening to beautiful classical music.

Reggae sounds on the Cours Soleya. Some children are dancing, others are learning.

It's a little late, maybe tomorrow morning is a better idea?

My friend Omar selling hotdogs and hamburgers. He had a busy night.

Way after midnight it's still extremely busy in the city.

On our way home we listen to a real good funk-rock band. The music feast will go on until the early morning, indoors and outdoors.

Prince Valerian Obolensky

Prince Valerian Obolensky (1951) is living in Amsterdam, Paris, and Nice. He is the author of the book Russians in Exile - The History Of A Diaspora. After the cold war Prince Valerian Obolensky was invited by Anatoli Sobchak, mayor of St. Petersburg and Russian candidate of presidency, to come to his beautiful city. Sobchak offered the Prince, on behalf of the Russian Republic, his most sincere excuses for everything the Russian nation had done to the Russian nobility since 1917.

Recently Prince Valerian Obolensky started a new project: Russian Aristocracy Online - a genealogy website of the Russian aristocracy.
