The beach in Nice is lovely, but sometimes the pebbles make me long for a soft and sandy beach. Right beside the big beach in St. Raphael, we found this lovely little beach, a five minutes walk from the railway station.
Far more interesting though, is the old town of St. Raphael, a small area north of the railway station, built around the old temple.

Beautiful, colourful old buildings, in sloping cobbled little streets.
Small alleys, with even smaller alleys around the corner.
Another charm: not many tourists come here. Why? Maybe they don't know about this place, or maybe the tourists in this area are in for more mondain shit.

I used to live here in Nice with my girl friend, a Dutch baroness, off and on, from 1976 to 1984. This photo was taken in 1986. Visiting regularly throughout the years, I moved back to Nice in 2007.

Prince Valerian Obolensky (1951) is living in Amsterdam, Paris, and Nice. He is the author of the book Russians in Exile - The History Of A Diaspora. After the cold war Prince Valerian Obolensky was invited by Anatoli Sobchak, mayor of St. Petersburg and Russian candidate of presidency, to come to his beautiful city. Sobchak offered the Prince, on behalf of the Russian Republic, his most sincere excuses for everything the Russian nation had done to the Russian nobility since 1917.
Recently Prince Valerian Obolensky started a new project: Russian Aristocracy Online - a genealogy website of the Russian aristocracy.
