Just a couple of miles from Nice. Most tourists won't know Antibes this way - with the snow covered Alps so near, and yet so far away, as the roads and railways have been blocked because of heavy snowfall. We're here in the sun, they're there freezing their balls off, and never the twain shall meet, not this week anyway.
The old town of Antibes is really nice. Many people from the boats, crew of luxurious yachts, mostly from Australia, are roaming the narrow streets, meeting their mates.

One more look into the Old Town - we need to go back to Nice.
On our way back to the railway station we walk by the port. In the distance you can see the old fortress, and way back the Alps. There's something in the air - something that promises a nice summer.

I don't own a yacht anymore, but I would like to have a 38ft sailing yacht, just small enough to be able to sail her myself, without any crew. :-))

I used to live here in Nice with my girl friend, a Dutch baroness, off and on, from 1976 to 1984. This photo was taken in 1986. Visiting regularly throughout the years, I moved back to Nice in 2007.

Prince Valerian Obolensky (1951) is living in Amsterdam, Paris, and Nice. He is the author of the book Russians in Exile - The History Of A Diaspora. After the cold war Prince Valerian Obolensky was invited by Anatoli Sobchak, mayor of St. Petersburg and Russian candidate of presidency, to come to his beautiful city. Sobchak offered the Prince, on behalf of the Russian Republic, his most sincere excuses for everything the Russian nation had done to the Russian nobility since 1917.
Recently Prince Valerian Obolensky started a new project: Russian Aristocracy Online - a genealogy website of the Russian aristocracy.
